Cleveland Way at Black Hambleton

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

Car park at Square Corner, get there early or it will be full. Great track up the side of Black Hambleton where you can access Arden Great Moor, or simply keep going south towards Sneck Yate. Awesome views from the top.

Square Corner might just be a car park, but this is a car park to end all car parks! On Thimbleby Moor, with views of the Black Hambleton hill to the south and with beautiful views down the valley to the town of Osmotherley to the west. Life is good again.

View of White Gill Head

Highlight • Natural Monument

A fabulously dramatic place that is worth stopping for on what is known as Hambleton Street, a part of the Cleveland Way long-distance trail.

Black Hambleton Summit Cairn

Highlight • Summit

Just off the track that leads south from Square Corner car park, up a very steep incline just to the west of Hambleton End, and continues on towards Arden Great Moor. This track, known as Hambleton Street, can be a little muddy and wet in winter, but is not terribly boggy and is still easily navigable.

Great views of Hambleton Hills from up here, but even greater is the fact that, if you find yourself here on a clear day, you could - by looking to the west over the Vale of Mowbray - get to see the summit of Great Whernside (in Yorkshire Dales) some 35 miles away!
