Pollarded beeches in the Kottenforst

Highlight • Natural Monument

The headbooks are witness to a historical forest management. For firewood, the trees were cut off at about 2m height. This meant that cattle driven into the forest could not eat the renewable shoots. The trees are absolutely worth seeing.

One of the most beautiful nature trails in the city area. There are quite a few fallen trees, so that you have to scramble over them again and again.

What started out as a leisurely walk in the woods turned into a little adventure 😂.

Along the Melbbach stream, the paths were very—really very 🙈—muddy and slippery, and there were tons of fallen trees.

So we had to climb over them or somehow get under them 💪.

The starting and finishing point for me was the Botanical Garden.
Public transport is recommended, as parking is limited.
Within walking distance, there are numerous places to stop for refreshments and food trucks with a great, diverse selection.
The section along the stream is a bit of a challenge due to muddy patches and a few fallen trees.
You can …

This hike is based on the Melbtal loop of the Rhineland Nature Park. However, I took a few wide paths out and a lot of narrow paths in, so that the result is a really beautiful, natural loop. In addition to the wonderful Melbtal, we were also very impressed by the many great beech trees and a few mushrooms. Despite …

On this stormy autumn Sunday we let ourselves drift through the wonderful Melbtal. It is amazing how beautiful and almost wild it is here around the Venusberg. Babbling brooks, the strange pollard beeches, steep hillside forests and always wide views over Bonn into the Rhine Valley can be discovered here.

Nice little round trip from Bonn. Because the good things are so close... . Just behind Poppelsdorf there are actually sections in the Melbtal that are physically demanding. Mud and tree trunks lying across the road that had to be overcome😄💪🥾 On the Waldau we were delighted by the little wild boar piglets and of course the stately fallow deer. …

Nice round on the Venusberg, beautiful view of the Siebengebirge and the Kreuzberg monastery is well worth seeing.

Perhaps the most interesting thing right at the beginning:
The "Holy Stairs" of the Kreuzberg Church and the "Holy Grave" in the cellar vault of the Kreuzberg Church will also be open tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Traditionally, the "Holy Stairs" are open to pilgrims and visitors every year on Good Friday and Holy Saturday.

A short detour through Australia on the way back. Highlights for me were the Melbbach valley and the view from the clinics over Bonn and the Rhine (not visible) to the left bank of the Rhine with Petersberg and Drachenfels.
