A gorgeous little woodland boasting fine views over to Snowdon, Nant y Betws occupies high ground above the village of Rhyd Ddu and Llyn Cwellyn. Two of the principal routes to Snowdon begin in the surroundings: the Snowdon Ranger Path starts from the north eastern side of Llyn Cwellyn, whilst the Rhyd Ddu Path starts from — you guessed it — Rhyd Ddu.

before the wider track continues onto the nose/ridge ahead, turn back on yourself and handrail the smaller ridge to your left.

The ascent is easy and beautiful, you have a great view at the top. The descent is not recommended at all!!! It is steep, extremely slippery. At the bottom, the path gets lost and you have to push your way through cross-country. Not recommended! You should descend the same way you ascended!

Parked up at the Rhyd Ddu car park, £6 for the whole day. Nice straight forward walk upto Mynydd Mawr, I decided to do the loop and come down towards the north end of Llyn Cwellyn, I would not advise this route in very wet conditions, the path down follows a stream that on this day was flowing with lots …
