Today we went to the Walhalla Hall of Fame in Donaustauf, a small cultural hike that I had wanted to do for a long time. The "Walhalla" is a beautiful neoclassical building in which deserving German-speaking men and women are honored. The Hall of Fame, visible from afar, was officially opened on October 18, 1842, after 12 years of construction. …

Short hike 🥾 to the Donaustauf castle ruins where you have a fantastic view over the Danube. From there past a small Chinese tower 🏯 to the pilgrimage church of St. Salvator ⛪️. Somewhat hidden at the end of the church, a beautiful hiking trail 🌲 leads directly to the Walhalla 🏛️.

Took advantage of the great weather. Start P Donaustauf, first up above St. Salvator to Walhalla, down, back to Donaustauf, view of the cemetery, castle ruins, along the bottom back up to Walhalla, visited the kiosk, back along the forest path to P. Yes, walked some paths twice, but it was so beautiful!

First we hiked to the Donaustauf castle ruins with a fantastic view of the Danube as far as Regensburg and later to the pilgrimage church of St. Salvador...unfortunately closed...and on a wonderful forest path to the Walhalla, which rises high above the Danube. King Ludwig I had it built as a memorial where deserving German-speaking …

The Donaustauf Castle Ruins are the ruins of a hilltop castle on a 424 m above sea level promontory overlooking the Danube River above the market town of Donaustauf in the Upper Palatinate district of Regensburg in Bavaria. The market town of Donaustauf developed in the Middle Ages as a civic settlement protected by the castle's mighty fortifications.
