Klippensteig to the Weser Skywalk

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Newly constructed from existing sandstone blocks, as well as tree and canopy material, the Cliff Trail is a natural ascent to the Weser Skywalk. The narrow, winding trail leads approximately 100 meters down the Hanover Cliffs to the Weser River and toward Bad Karlshafen—or up. Discoveries, both big and small, await everywhere, and there's even a bench for a rest.

Weser-Skywalk viewing platform

Highlight • Viewpoint

Update July 2, 2024: Weser Skywalk reopened!

After a routine structural inspection of the Weser Skywalk, it was briefly closed for further inspection. After consultation with the structural engineers, the "green light" was given and the Beverungen city building yard has already removed the barriers.
---------
The Weser Skywalk viewing platform on the Hannoversche Klippen near Würgassen is currently closed to visitors.

During the regular structural inspection, defects were discovered, which are now being examined in more detail. The specialist engineers will meet shortly to discuss further measures. At the moment, it is not possible to estimate how long the closure will last. Signs at the car park already indicate that entry is prohibited.

There is an urgent warning against ignoring the closure!

The Weser Skywalk is a galvanized steel observation platform built in 2011 on the easternmost of the seven Hanoverian cliffs (Weser sandstone), which rise up to 80 meters above the Weser River near the border triangle of North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, and Hesse, between the towns of Würgassen and Bad Karlshafen.
An absolute top highlight in this region – highly recommended.

WS Stamp 46: Lug ins Land

Highlight • Viewpoint

From September 15th, stamp station 46 of the hiking treasures in the Wild Homeland will be located at the Lug ins Land lookout point.

A magnificent view of the Weserbergland awaits you on the small Kuhlenberg. Below you, the Weser flows in a loop, first to the left and then (hidden by the trees) to the right in the direction of Bad Karlshafen. The railway line runs parallel to the river behind the Weser for a while and then disappears into a tunnel towards Northeim and Göttingen. The town of Bodenfelde can be seen in the background. From the "Lug ins Land" lookout point, you can see a typical German low mountain landscape. The hilltops are covered with forest, and the valleys are covered with fields and arable land. The reasons for this landscape came about thousands of years ago after the Ice Age. A lot of rain and wind washed and blew nutrient-rich soil from the hilltops, which then collected in the protected valleys.

August 11, 2025,Bad Karlshafen - Weser-Skywalk – Lug ins Land Runde
An absolutely peaceful hike. We only encountered people at the Weser Skywalk (of course, there's a parking lot there, too).
Otherwise, we didn't see a soul.
The descent from Lug into the countryside was simply magical. Pure forest bathing.

Unfortunately, Komoot didn't have a GPS connection at times, so we naturally climbed the many steps to the Skywalk and ended up back at the train station. The tour is HIGHLY recommended; a very, very beautiful route.

Showing Translation

Unfortunately, the last few kilometers were just roads. The attempt to take a shortcut failed.
