Chapel at Łapszanka Pass

Highlight • Religious Site

From wherever you're coming, it's been a tough uphill to come here. But once you see the view, you know it was worth it. This small chapel was built by the people from Łapszanka village (north down the valley). It was believed that these chapels (equipped with a bell) were able to protect from the storms, they were used (the bell was ringed) when storm clouds were coming so that people that were working in the fields could have time to find a shelter. In 1967 a man was striked by a lightning when ringing the bell. There is a copy of Our Lady of Czestochowa image inside the chapel. It is one of very few remaining buildings of this type in the whole territory of Sub-Tatra regions.

The pass over Łapszanka. At the crossroads there is an old chapel with a bell warning against storms. This place offers a beautiful panorama of the Tatra Mountains.

St. Elizabeth's Wooden Church in Trybsz

Highlight • Religious Site

This very small building was created nearly 500 years ago. As it happened with other wooden churches in the area, it was left without much care after a new church was built in the village, in 1903, which later led to the dismantling of its ruined tower twenty years ago. Luckily, the authorities noticed the uniqueness of the church and it's protection and conservation started.
There are beautiful 17th century polichromia inside with two curiosities worth your special attention: a painted 17 century panorama of the Tatra Mountains as seen from Trybsz hills and a visionary image of the Czorsztyn and Sromowce Lakes which were created only 350 years later (when the dams were built!).

St. Andrew's Church in Szaflary

Highlight • Religious Site

The original church was built of wood around 1340. Until 1519, it was an independent parish church, and then it was attached to the parish church in Nowy Targ. The current temple was built between 1799 and 1810, thanks to the efforts of the parish priest, Father Szymon Zamojski, and the work of the parishioners. In 1810, it was re-established as a parish church.
