Peter Pies and Child Sculpture

Highlight • Monument

This group of figures of an adult and a child stands on a traffic island in Emmelshausen, not far from the train station (terminus of the Hunsrück railway). The man is PETER PIES, the family was "bone makers" (as it was called back then) for several generations. The sculpture was created in 2008 by Jutta Reiss.

Unmissable (almost 5 m high and 24 m in diameter) and yet hardly noticed is the Celtic princely grave of Dörth directly on the L206 between Dörth and Emmelshausen.

In 1851, a farmer in search of the legendary "Golden Chariot" actually dug up a chariot grave of a Celtic prince. The carriage was not made of gold, but a number of golden grave goods were sold to the Royal Museum in Berlin.
Other finds ended up in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Bonn.

South of the Fürstengrabe (on the other side of the street) there are 4 more burial mounds in a fairly dense forest, all of which have been excavated.

Hunsrückbahn Museum Emmelshausen

Highlight • Monument

At the terminus of the Hunsrückbahn (coming from Boppard on the Rhine) in Emmelshausen, part of the station building serves as the Hunsrückbahn Museum. It is looked after by volunteers. Opening hours are limited to Sundays and public holidays, between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and only in the months of May to September.
But if you are interested in railways and can manage your time, the visit is worthwhile and the 2 euro entrance fee is well worth it.
