Sunnighorn Via Ferrata

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

A Blue/White alpine route signposted from across the river to Wimmis - route is about 700m vertical up to the Sunninghorn over 1,400m. Part VF (KS2/B), part T4+ hike, part grade I Scramble depending on your level of experience. So VF not obligatory, but you should wear a helmet against rockfall (one death so far). Note that route is exposed and will get very hot in summer. Views from the Sunninghorn are superb. NB: Route is NOT protected the whole way so good footwear and no fear of heights or exposure are required. Various routes back down...

Sunnighorn Via Ferrata

Highlight • Climb

They say to watch out for Adders on hot days, but I've never seen one. I would bring a helmet for any minor rockfall from mountain goats or other hikers. Keep careful note of trail markings as the way is not always clear. Note that if you bring Via Ferrata kit you might as well use it...

Wimmis Covered Wooden Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Starting point for the eastern route on the Niesen. The name Wimmis probably derives from the vineyards. The village has almost 2,500 inhabitants.
