To round off our Eifel hiking holiday, we were today at an altitude of approx. 400 m and mostly in the shade. It was strenuous nonetheless, but

- the beautiful, almost circular and very deep Pulvermaar (today with very lively outdoor pool activities) as well as
- the Strohner Mä(ä)rchen, a small dry maar and raised bog nearby

The nature reserve "Pulvermaar with Römerberg and Strohner Märchen" stretches between Gillenfeld and Strohn in the area of a volcanic landscape formed by a group of volcanoes, consisting of two maars and a 65-meter-high tuff and cinder cone—the Römerberg.

First, the Strohner Maar erupted in the south. The next eruption created the now somewhat asymmetrical volcanic cone "Römerberg."
