It's great around here, especially in autumn when it's a little quieter and the colours really pop. Super interesting fact: Beatrix Potter actually used to own the Tarns, having bought them in 1929 before selling half to the National Trust. Black Crag

One of my favourite fells in the Lake District. At 1,060 feet (323 m), it's one of the smallest Wainwrights but the views across the Lake District from this southern vantage point are outstanding. The undulating dry stone wall that runs over the summit is so charming, as is the wooden ladder stile that crosses it close to the summit. The way the trees on the summit have bent in the wind over time also adds character to this place.

Hodge Close Quarry

The Hodge Close quarry is one of the many slate quarries in the Tilberthwaite valley, between Langdale and Coniston. This quarry was worked until the early 1960s.
The Hodge Close quarry is a huge excavation of light green slate, with steep walls and no fences, with an original depth of about 100 metres from the ground. The 45 metre deep wall is popular with abseilers, while the 45 metre deep, submerged, tunnels that extend below the surface are favoured by divers.
