A wonderful hiking trail that is not quite as flat in places as other levada trails.

The Levada do Moinho is a Levada flowing in parts, as some sections have a steep slope. It runs through heathland and laurel primeval forests.
When wet, there are places that are as slippery as soft soap (terracotta-colored surfaces).

At the end of the path you come to a small pond with another cascade.

The Levada do Moinho near Achadas da Cruz has a lot to offer. It winds narrowly along the mountain ridges

Now it's just a huge construction site with lots of sand and dust... but there's still a cow standing between the construction workers and trucks ;)

This levada hike, located in the extreme north-west of the island, has so far only been little used. The lush vegetation unfolds the charm of the hike on the second half of the way.

The canal was also called Levada Grande because the waters derived from the highlands not only irrigated the fields but also powered water mills. One of …

Easy levada tour through a lot of forest with a few meters of altitude and without dizzying sections on the ER 101 in northwest Madeira. (Not to be confused with Levada Moinho / Levada Novo at Lambada da Ponta da Sol). If you have hiking sticks with you, you should take them with you. They are more of a hindrance …

Rother No. 66, PR 7.
Marked blue, the trails are clayey and slippery. The climbs are unusually short for a levada hike. Therefore, it's more of a red one.

Rarely used. Almost at the end is a waterfall with a natural pool. Ideal for hardy swimmers.
Finishing off with an incredibly delicious burger at the 101 Bar by the parking …

A hike on Madeira is bound to involve fog and drizzle - so that one is out of the question 😓😉. Luckily, the weather had improved after we turned around and on the way back the sun even came out and, in addition to the pleasant warmth, created very different images than on the way there. Along the levada we …

Attention! There is a car park at the start, but in front of it there is a deep gully at the side of the road. It is dangerous for small cars to drive over. You may want to lay wood on the path (bring your own). The path partly goes along a mostly small levada with beautiful vegetation on the …

We actually wanted to do one of the many levada hikes in Rabacal. But since the parking lot and the access road were so crowded and the weather was pretty bad, we decided on this alternative. The weather was perfect and apart from two local hikers with dogs, we didn't meet anyone else. And it really is a beautiful levada …

We didn't meet anyone on this route, although the hike (apart from one ascent via natural stairs) is easy to master. Hiking poles are recommended as the terrain can be wet and slippery at times. Even when the sun is intense, you are mostly in the shade here and it is wonderfully cool.

The tour is actually very beautiful, but after an hour it gets a bit monotonous. With so much peace and quiet here and after the fire, you almost feel like an intruder as nature reclaims its territory. Very impressive!
