Commemorative Stone of the Associations of German Students

Highlight • Monument

The German Students' Association's embassy memorial stone is a reminder of how enthusiastically the students received the "social message" of Kaiser Wilhelm I on November 17, 1881. The Kaiser had demanded care for the German working class before the Reichstag and thus laid the foundation for German social policy. The erection of this memorial stone was a sign of the students' social commitment. It showed part of the text of the imperial message on a bronze plaque. The plaque remained here until June 1960, when it was dismantled and destroyed on the orders of the district council. It was replaced by an overview map of the hiking trails on the Kyffhäuser. On June 5, 1993, a new sandstone plaque was unveiled on the memorial stone with excerpts from the imperial social message.

Kyffhäuser Monument

Highlight • Monument

Built during the period of the "National Monuments", which had its heyday in the 19th century. The Kyffhäuser Monument is one of the largest of its kind in Germany, along with the Walhalla in Regensburg.

Kyffhausen Lower Castle

Highlight • Castle

My absolute highlight. The Kyffhäuser Monument is impressive, but the Lower Castle is charming and not overcrowded, at least outside of the holidays. Very romantic.

The first 2.5 km were characterized by several beautiful views of Kyffhäuser, a dream in this beautiful weather. Then came the ravine towards Tilleda, the orchards with lots of pears and apples and again we had the Kyffhäuser in view before the climb to the lower castle began. The steep ravine was tough. Then, while looking at the lower castle, …

Today we went to the Kyffhäuser. We wanted to hike to the summit and therefore started in Tilleda, where there is a nice parking lot for hikers.

The ascent led along meadows and later through the forest on a very nice path. Above we looked at the lower castle and of course the monumental monument. Since we were on the …

The first tour back in Germany takes me to the mystical and historic Kyffhäuser.
Even if my predecessors from the book avoided the Kyffhäuser monument, it was clear to me that I would take it with me years later. And it's always worth it.
The humidity made the 11 km a sweaty adventure. 😎👌🇩🇪
Oh, afterglow is secured, mushroom year …

On the way in the southern Harz Mountains, I have often had the Kyffhäuser Monument in view, from a wide variety of locations it was visible in the distance. I've always thought: if I can see the building from here, then I can see this far from there. How far might the view be? Let's find out...

And again a great tour ... until now we have always driven to the Kyffhäuser monument. On foot and in this weather it was of course a completely different experience. It was cold and windy up there. But the absolute experience was the Königspfalz in Tilleda. We were very enthusiastic about how big and in what top condition this system …

Day 3 short hiking holiday:

Finally the weather was nice again, and so we started from the PP Kyffhäuser Monument, three Touringen stamps were on the planned route. After the lower castle, which is well worth seeing, we followed a steep ravine to the orchards near Tilleda, and then climbed another ravine over 200 meters up to the Gietenkopf. There …

The start of today's hike was the Kyffhäuser monument, which was built on the site of the former Reichsburg Kyffhausen from 1892-1896 and is the largest monument in Thuringia. After visiting the remains of the lower, middle and upper castle and of course the monument itself, we went on a circular hike on well-signposted and laid out hiking trails. The …
