Chapel of St. Bartholomäus Zerfreila, "Zervreilerchappeli"
The chapel of St. Bartholomäus stands above the reservoir on a terrace in Zervreila. It was built in 1959 to commemorate the earlier chapel that had to make way for the reservoir. The one-room chapel faces east. To protect against avalanches, the chapel ends in a wedge on the mountain side.
The altar is set on a single-tiered stone pedestal. It comes from the old chapel. It is likely to have come from Johann Ritz, the most famous baroque carver in the Alps, and was created between 1730 and 1740. The statuettes of St. Bartholomew (left) and St. John the Evangelist (right) can be seen on the altar. Between the columns is the altarpiece depicting the Mother of God. The two bells of the chapel also come from the old chapel.
