Rock Cellar of the Nagelschmidt Brewery

At the "Archäologietour Nordeifel", which the LVR (Landschaftsverband Rheinland) organizes on the first Sunday in October (currently canceled due to the corona pandemic), that was one of the stations that could be visited (including a tour of the interior).

This jaw immediately caught our eye. A great tree that will hopefully withstand many more storms.

Hiking Woman Tuesday:

We originally wanted to take a different route today, but then decided on this tour.

We started in Bürvenich at the Felsenkeller (rock cellar), which was blasted into the mountain by A. Nagelschmidt in 1858 beneath his villa and was used as an ice cellar for cooling beer and wine.
A crew from WDR (West German Broadcasting …

Today I went on an Eifel loop again. I already know the route because it is almost identical to the loop Himmel und Ääd, which I walked in May. Today's tour is only shortened in one place and the starting point has been moved to Floisdorf.

Showing Translation

We moved the start so that we could have the Bürvenicher Berg as a direct highlight. From here you can see a wonderful sunrise over the Zülpicher Börde.

The Eifel loop mountain and valley offers one thing in abundance: wide views. On the loop over the mountain ridges around the Eifeld villages of Floisdorf and Berg you look over the garden of the Rhineland - the Zülpicher Börde - to Kölle and the cathedral, look across the Siebengebirge to the Bergisches Land, look into the brown coal mines, …

My friend Betty told me about today's hike. There was an article about it in the city newspaper on April 1, 2025. Since I wanted to get some exercise today, I headed toward Zülpich and parked at the hiking parking lot above Bürvenich. The trail offers magnificent views, peace, and nature.

We really liked the Eifel loop "Himmel un Ääd". The tour offers beautiful views, picturesque places and untouched nature. Since you mostly walk across fields and meadows, the tour is not recommended in very hot weather. There are places to stop for refreshments.

You can find more tours of the Eifel loops and Eifel tracks in my own collection:
