Trentabank Reservoir

Highlight • Viewpoint

Trentabank Reservoir supplies the town of Macclesfield with drinking water. Although a working environment, Trentabank and the conifer forests are a haven for wildlife. The site has more than 20 breeding pairs of herons and is one of the best places to see them in the Peak District. You can also observe birds of prey, red deer and wading birds at certain times of year.

Teggsnose Reservoir was built in 1871. It works in conjunction with Bottoms Reservoir to regulate the flow and maintain the current that powered the mills below. The overflow channel allows water to overflow into the lower reservoir rather than overtopping the dam.

Once at the visitors centre head steep downhill on a cobbled path . Before heading …

Parking is free at Teggs Nose Reservoir Car Park. There's room for about 10 cars or so. Was empty at 8am Saturday morning so perfect. Lovely walk first part is uphill but you are welcomed with the amazing dark forest.
This walk is cow free 😁
