The Cottbus East Lake belongs to the city of Cottbus and, to the north, to the Spree-Neiße district.

It is a residual lake from the Cottbus-Nord open-cast lignite mine, which was active until 2015.

The lake was filled with water from the Spree River between 2019 and 2024, and its maximum depth is 30 meters.
