Löwenstein Castle was first mentioned in 1253. It was completely preserved until the beginning of the 17th century, but in need of renovation. Presumably it was then severely affected in the Thirty Years' War. At the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century, only the keep, rubble and remains of the curtain wall and "a massive square pillar" could be seen on the south side. Decay and demolition continued to destroy the castle.

In the years 2001/2002 the keep was renovated, provided with an internal staircase and roof hood and made accessible to the public as a lookout tower.

At the foot of the mountain is the Oberurffer lake, where you can take a wonderful break.
