Viewing platform at Eriskircher Ried

Highlight • Viewpoint

The viewing platform in the Eriskircher Ried offers a wide view over the nature reserve and Lake Constance. From here you can observe water birds in the shallow water areas, including herons and coots. The reeds spread out in dense stands and serve as a habitat for many animal species. On clear days the Alps can be seen in the distance.

The eastern promenade behind the Romanshorn ferry dock, toward the Rotach estuary, is quieter than the city promenade, but there are hardly any dining options there. You'll find them again at the campsite at the Rotach estuary.

Friedrichshafen Harbour

Highlight • Rest Area

The port of Friedrichshafen is centrally located on the promenade, in immediate proximity to the city center and all restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, and sights.
Ships depart from the port in Friedrichshafen to practically all ports on Lake Constance in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Whether by ferry to Romanshorn, by fast catamaran to Konstanz, or simply a relaxed tour to visit the interesting towns along Lake Constance – Friedrichshafen is the ideal starting point for exploring Lake Constance by ship.

May 22, 2024,Von Friedrichshafen durch's Eriskircher Ried nach Langenargen - Tour ab Bahnhof FN 22.05.24
Tour planned at short notice, as the route towards Radolfzell from Oberuhldingen was closed due to a train accident. So we went in the other direction by bus and train to FN. From there along the lake over the Eriskircher Ried with the beautiful iris blossom to Langenargen. By train, changing in FN and then back.
The weather was very …

What do you do in such heat? When I walked to the train station at half past five, it was already a whopping 20 degrees.
At first I wanted to run a forest-heavy route, but I hadn't looked closely at the train connection and would have had to wait almost an hour in Ulm. So instead I hopped on the …

By train to FN, then along the lake to the mouth of the Rotach, walked through Eriskircher Ried and Langenargen. Nice tour in changeable weather. Everything from blue skies, heavy clouds and rain showers was there. From Langenargen we took the train back.

This time in a very small group. But still nice.

April 26, 2024,Eriskircher Ried
It was a long-held wish to go for a walk here. The Eriskircher Ried is a classic nature reserve. The Ried has been under protection since 1939, and in 1983 the extensive shallow water zone in the bay was added.
The path leads mainly through floodplain forest and along reed meadows, and in three places there are side paths to …

By train to FN. From there, we walked along the lake through the Eriskircher Ried, admired the iris blossoms, and continued to Langenargen. By train, changing trains at FN and then returning.
Beautiful weather at 16°C, with the sun occasionally hiding behind the clouds.

We took the really well-functioning public transport from Friedrichshafen to Eriskirch Station Irisstraße and then hiked back.
It runs wonderfully through the Ried. You should definitely take the small junctions to the vantage points on Lake Constance with you. At the outdoor pool in Eriskirch there is a small restaurant that provides hikers with cool drinks and a snack.

Today we took the bus to Friedrichshafen and walked back. The path was always flat. Komoot probably climbed over a few of the ripe trees. A nice afternoon activity before New Year's Eve. Happy New Year to everyone and a healthy and happy New Year.
