Winnats Pass Climb

Highlight (Segment) • Canyon

No.33 of Simon Warren's '100 Greatest Cycling Climbs'. A 1.1 mile (1.8 km) climb with an average gradient of 11.4% and a max of 18.3%.

Worth it though as once you have made it up onto the ridgeline the views are awesome!

Perfect cut-through from Rushup Edge to Peak Forest. Views can extend for miles on a clear day.

Tideswell

Highlight • Settlement

Tideswell is a large village that has the honour of being ‘Cathedral of the Peak’. The pretty village has narrow streets, quirky cottages and an utterly timeless atmosphere. Tideswell has a good choice of places to stay, eat and drink, making it perfect for a pit-stop or an overnight stay. The village has a packed calendar of events throughout the year, too.

Cressbrook Switchback

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

One of my favourite climbs in the area. Steady gradient heading up to Cressbrook with a stunning switchback ¾ of the way up. Make sure to stop for a photo! 📸

Headstone Viaduct

Highlight • Monument

Headstone Viaduct is a breathtaking structure that crosses Monsal Dale. The five-arch bridge, which is 70 feet (21 m) tall at its highest point, affords fine views over the River Wye. Built in 1863 by the Midland Railway, many believed the structure blighted the view upon its completion. These days, however, it is iconic and has Grade II-listed status. The viaduct now carries the Monsal Trail, a traffic-free route for hikers, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair users.

Monsal Head is one of the most photographed viewpoints in Derbyshire – and for good reason! Overlooking the impressive Headstone Viaduct crossing the picturesque Monsal Dale, it truly is a wonder to behold. You can stop for food and drink at the Monsal Head Hotel and there is usually an ice cream van parked here.

Peak District Cycle Tunnels

Highlight • Trail

Well lit, nicely paved tunnels which last approx 100m each

Cafe, bike hire, bookshop and ebike retail shop. Good place to stop for a snack whilst riding the Monsal Trail. Food is okay, coffee is good. Bookshop is great for a browse and there is a bike shop for any spares you might need (as well as hire bikes).
