View of Würgau from Neues Würgauer Kreuz

Arriving at Würgauer Kreuz, a fantastic panorama opens up to the hiker. The view sweeps over the tranquil Unterwiesenthal and the village of Würgau, until it gets lost in the vast plains of the Bamberg region. It is the perfect place for a rest, where nature and impressive engineering meet.
To the right, a striking structure catches the eye: the Würgau slope bridge. The 412-meter-long, two-girder motorway bridge of the A70 proudly spans the valley, connecting Scheßlitz with the uplands of the Franconian Jura. Anyone who looks closely can hardly believe that this monumental viaduct was already built between 1992 and 1993 – it integrates so elegantly into the landscape today.
A pure contrast to this is offered by the view to the left. Here, the bare rock of Franconian Switzerland reigns. The striking, steeply rising climbing walls – especially the imposing Nuremberg Tower – not only magically attract the gaze of hikers, but also offer mountaineers a spectacular backdrop.

This morning we drove towards Gräfenhäusling and parked our car in a hiking car park near the A70. We walked the first km along a meadow path parallel to the A70. We didn't really need that part 🙈.
