Innerste Dam

Highlight • Lake

The Innerste Dam is a dam in the Innerste region, located in the northwest of the Harz Mountains between Langelsheim, Wolfshagen, and Lautenthal. It was built between 1963 and 1966 and belongs to the Harz Waterworks. Its purposes are drinking water supply, flood protection, low-water elevation, and power generation. The average annual discharge of the Innerste Dam is 60 million cubic meters.

Gutshofweg at Brandiskamp

Highlight • Cycleway

This small avenue leads to the historic Riechenberg monastery. The most important remains of the building is the Romanesque crypt of the demolished collegiate church. The monastery property is subordinate to the monastery chamber of Hanover. The evangelical brotherhood of Gethsemanekloster lives in the Riechenberg monastery.

Innerste Cycle Path

Highlight • Cycleway

For me, the Innerster Cycle Path between Wildemann and Langelsheim is one of the most beautiful cycle paths in the Goslar district. It doesn't run directly along the road, even though it's right next to it for most of its stretch. However, since it runs along the former railway line, the path is secluded enough and lined with trees to allow you to cycle through beautiful nature.

Innerstetalsperre

Highlight • Lake

Good for a road bike tour despite the traffic. The two-lane road is so well developed that overtaken cars usually don't push you very often.

Innerste Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

If you drive around the Innerstetalsperre, you will always come to beautiful swimming areas and beaches, where you can take a break. On hot days you can refresh yourself while bathing in the cool water of the reservoir.

If you fancy a longer break at the dam and would like to try other water sports such as rowing, surfing or sailing, you can spend the night in the campsite by the lake.

ers from the reservoir across the dam. There is no other dam in the Harz Mountains with a flood protection facility constructed in this way.
If necessary, the water from the Innerste reservoir can be diverted to the neighboring Granetalsperre via an underground water tunnel. In this case, the water has to be pumped uphill about 90 meters, as the Granetalsperre is correspondingly higher.
Although the inner reservoir is used to produce drinking water, the water can also be used for sporting activities. You can swim, sail, fish, windsurf or take a rowboat on and around the lake. On the east bank there is also a campsite not far from the road.
An approximately seven kilometer long circular hiking / cycling path leads around the reservoir of the Innerste dam.

May 19, 2024,☀️☁️ Runde über Innerstetalsperre, Goslar, Granetalsperre und Lautenthal
The early bird catches the sun 😍
This morning we set off in glorious weather:
First around the Imnerste Dam, then on the cycle path to Goslar in the old town and to the Imperial Palace. Then up to the Nordberg, then around the Königsberg and further down to the Grane Dam. From there we took our usual route back …

Today we drove without a plan and decided at every intersection where to go next.
We like to do that from time to time 😁
In the end we went around the Innerste Dam and around Astfeld to Goslar and then back again. The main thing was to get out 🍀
