Delftsche Vliet Canal

Highlight • River

The Delftsche Vliet is a canal with a length of 4.6 kilometers between Delft and Rijswijk, and is part of the Rijn-Schie Canal, which forms the connection between the Oude Rijn near Leiden and Overschie. This connection partly follows the course of the Corbulo Canal, the connection between the Rhine and the Meuse that the Romans built in the first century.
In the middle of the 12th century, the connection was dug between Delft and the old canal, which ran to the current location of the Hoornbrug: the Delftse Vliet. The Delftse Vliet was widened from 1891 to 1894. The section from Delft to Overschie is called the Delftsche Schie.

Kandelaar Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The Kandelaarbrug is an elegant steel drawbridge over the Delftse Schie, especially for cyclists and walkers. With its long approach and slight bend, it offers a smooth connection between Rotterdam and Delft, while you can enjoy the view over the water and the surrounding polders along the way.

June 29, 2024,Holland 8 Von Den Haag nach Rotterdam. Abschlußetappe mit Zugabe in Delft
Last leg of our 8-day trip through Holland. Because of the parade on Veterans Day, we have to make sure we get away before the streets are blocked. But a visit to the Mauritshus Museum is a must. Rembrandt, Vermeer, van Hals. The house is small but beautiful.
