Passo Cantoniera di Carpegna

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The Cantoniera pass goes around the Carpegna mountain massif, insinuating itself into a small saddle existing between this relief and the nearby group of Sasso Simone and Simoncello. Pass connecting the Conca and Marecchia valleys.

Marco Pantani Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The Cippo climb road climbs narrowly through the woods and is punctuated by memories of the Pirate and of Eddy Merckx's exploits in the Giros of '73 and '74: writings on the recently redone asphalt, blow-ups of the pages of the Gazzetta, installations on the walls. .. really suggestive.

The Cippo climb is made up of 22 hairpin bends, each hairpin bend is numbered and shows the altitude and distance to the summit.

The really tough part of the climb is between hairpin bends 1/22 and 2/22, where you climb up to 18%; then, until 4/22, things become slightly more normal, but still above 12%.

At hairpin bend 7 you will find the picnic area, the Forestry refuge, with the Pineta Museum, a campsite, a fountain.

Summit of Monte Carpegna

Highlight • Summit

The highest point of Monte Carpegna houses the radio/television antennas and repeaters.
There is no view of the hills and valleys below which is on the opposite side and it is wonderful.

Le Fontanelle Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Suggestive to get there by night walk. It is a bivouac. Inside there are cots (wooden boards) that can be used to sleep in. The fireplace doesn't pull much and if you want to cook in there, resign yourself to dusting all your clothes. There are several grills available, a nice table with benches (you are there, a bit cramped even in 8 to eat).
The name Fontanelle derives from the source.
If looking at the refuge you go down to the right, and follow the path (there is a fence to open), you will arrive at the source, inside a small house with an unlocked door. Inside you will find a tub full of freezing water, which flows continuously. Very fresh. The only problem is that you have to fill the bottle by immersing it in the tub, but it is very clean, you shouldn't take any risks, since there is no human settlement up there (we drank it in 6 and nothing happened to anyone) .
Very important: close both the spring door and the bivouac well, after using them, possibly leaving everything a little cleaner than when you arrived!

Early morning exit. I wanted to reach the Cippo and the Trabocchetto pass and I succeeded but I had little time so I was a bit tense.
In the end, 1400 D + and 32 km went out. The path, however, must be done in the opposite way to how I did it because at Cippo there are single tracks …
