Church of the Holy Cross

Highlight • Religious Site

The Church of Santa Croce in Alassio, located on a panoramic hill, was built in the 11th century by Benedictine monks from Gallinara Island in Romanesque style. Characterized by its original apse and a 16th-century portico, the structure lay in ruins for centuries before being restored between the 1950s and 1970s.

The first part is a bit difficult and steep. I recommend walking shoes.

Showing Translation

A beautiful loop along part of the Roman road via Julia Augusta and its ruins 🏛️, with breathtaking views of the island of Gallinara 🏝️, the turquoise sea, and the Baia del Sole ☀️. Surrounded by herbs and olive groves 🫒

Followed by a short tour of Alassio with a picnic by the sea.

The 700th tour. The altitude is not correct, subtract the spikes and we are at 150 m altitude.

Showing Translation

Nice ride with a sea view.
The Alassio stop could be avoided.
I went for lunch.

Showing Translation

This is a very nice hike. We recommend this route from Albenga because you have the sun in front of you. There are very nice sea views. Good shoes recommended, as mostly stony paths. Back by train.

Showing Translation

Also the return beautiful walk with glimpses of the sea.
Route 2 starts from the Church of Santa Croce and returns to Albenga.
I actually went down to Alassio for lunch
So if you don't want to go down to Alassio:
This could be a variant

The second part remain lower than the first..
