The Scala hill (in French Col de l'Échelle) is located on the Italian-French border and is a rather easy climb if tackled from Briançon, while it is long and hard from Bardonecchia. If on the French side only the last two/three kilometers are really uphill, the Piedmont side presents the central five kilometers at 7% with peaks in double figures for trained legs.
