Pleimont Observation Tower

Highlight • Monument

A unique remnant of the German occupation of Guernsey during the Second World War, Pleinmont Observation Tower is a conspicuous sight. Five stories high and with its original rangefinders still in good nick, it's an interesting place to explore. You'll have to pay an admission fee to access the tower, which is open during the warmer months.

This is where Guernsey ends 😜😜 A hike on Pleinmont is always a great nature experience and you need sturdy shoes and usually a windbreaker.

St Saviour's Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The current church dates from the 14th/15th century.
During the German occupation, its tower was used as a viewpoint and a chamber with loopholes was built in the tower. In front of this beautiful, lovely parish church, there is also a menhir.
Twice a year, the parish celebrates and warmly welcomes visitors. Every year in June, there is a big festival, for which the church is decorated, and pastries and tea are served. Highly recommended! On November 11th, Remembrance Day, the war dead are commemorated with poppies, but life is also celebrated.

This is the largest construction in the Channel Islands, covering an area of 7000 square metres (75, 347 sq ft), and was dug out of rock by slave workers of many nationalities from 1940 onwards, taking over three years to complete. It could have easily accommodated 500 patients, but was never substantially used. Today it is a major tourist destination for those who are interested in the War and Occupation of the Channel Islands.
