Saints-Pierre-et-Paul Abbey Church (Wissembourg)

The Abbey of Wissembourg was founded in the 7th century by East Frankish noblemen on an island of Lauter. The Benedictines who worked here in the subsequent period to a considerable influence, so that the abbey is considered one of the richest of the Holy Roman Empire. It was secularized in 1524.
The predominantly Gothic church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul dates back to the end of the 13th century. Noteworthy are frescoes in the church from the 14th and 15th centuries, not least the unfinished high Gothic cloister of the monastery on the north side of the church, which is considered one of the most beautiful in the Upper Rhine.
