Giglachsee Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Giglachseehütte is, as the name suggests, right next to the idyllic Giglachsee and at the foot of the Styrian Kalkspitze (2,459 m) in the Schladminger Tauern. The hut can be reached from several starting points, and all of these routes are ideal for a hiking excursion.

Styrian Kalkspitze

Highlight • Summit

From the Vögeim via the Oberhüttensee, the ascent from the south-east can be done in about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. After the Oberhüttensee, the path becomes consistently steep. An absolutely doable route up to the top of the grade between the two limestone peaks. The remaining meters to the Steirische Kalkspitze then require sure-footedness and a head for heights and is not necessarily something for the inexperienced. A few climbing inserts are included. However, the view at the top makes it worth it.
I can recommend going north-west over the Meeregg back down to the Oberhütte am See. However, this path is not for the inexperienced! Sure-footedness and a head for heights are required here, as there are parts of the trail that go along the steep slope/ridge without any safety equipment and without the right path.
I do not recommend climbing the summit when it is wet and foggy! The danger here is simply too great!

Oberhütte by the Lake

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The long climb is worth it. You have a great view from the Oberhütte at around 1,860 meters. When you get here, you deserve a break. The Oberhütte is also a great place to stay. You have the choice between double, 6-bed or 16-bed rooms. There is hot food here between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Ursprungalm

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Ursprungalm is a managed hut in the Almdorf of the same name, which is picturesquely situated at the foot of the Steirische Kalkspitze. The Ursprungalm, located at 1,604 meters above sea level in the wild and romantic Preuneggtal, is also used as a starting point for further hikes in the Schladminger Tauern. The toll road costs 18 euros, there is no discount on the summer card!

Exhausting tour with impressive panoramic views. Surefootedness and a head for heights are essential when climbing to the summit. The ascent to the Oberhüttensee needs surefootedness again. The effort is rewarded again with a nice view. The descent to the Ursprungalm goes over moors and through a stream bed. Waterproof shoes are recommended here.
