Impressive cliffs

Highlight • Viewpoint

Beautiful view on rocks and suitable terrain for a bivouac. And the sunrises and sunsets are fantastic. 🌄🌅
In the morning and evening, when peace settles on the hiking trails, you can observe chamois here, which like to stay in the terrain of the Spitzköpfe.

Lake Fischboedle

Highlight • Lake

Small reservoir that is romantically situated between steep mountain slopes. A roofed pavilion right by the lake invites you to enjoy a leisurely snack.

Lake Schiessrothried

Highlight • Lake

Formerly a raised bog, it became a mountain lake through the construction of a small dam.

The lake can also be seen from above (ascent to) the Hohneck.

Highlight • Viewpoint

If you arrive after four to five kilometers on the mountain and enjoy the view of both France and the direction of the Rhine and Black Forest, this is just wonderful in fine weather.

If you love alpine tours, the circular route in the Vosges is the right place for you. Up to the Hohneck summit you roam through forests with moss-covered trees. These have a mystical effect, you feel like you are in the land of fairies and meadows. Once you have left the woods behind you, the mighty Martinswand rises below the Hohneck. If you are lucky you can see mountain goats there. From Hohneck it goes through a forest past the Krappenfelsen to the beautiful Frankenthal. Definitely visit the grotto Dagobert. After the Frankenthal it goes back on the rock path to the starting point Col de lagorge. Here the alpine friends get their money's worth. I was particularly fascinated by the rock path. At the end, brasseries and restaurants invite you to relax in comfort.
Conclusion.
A very beautiful and varied circular route. However, not easy, rather classified as difficult. With children you can walk it to Hohneck, but from the Hohneck in the direction of Frankenthal it becomes very dangerous for children and people with restricted mobility. Chasms, rock paths etc. . You should be sure-footed and wear good shoes. Beautiful nature with many and interesting facets.
Pure nature 😉

Hohneck

Highlight • Summit

The second highest peak in the Vosges Mountains, at 1,363 meters, is also the highest point in the range accessible by asphalt. While the access road is only a short side road branching off the well-known Route des Crêtes, the view from the Hohneck summit is well worth the effort.

August 1, 2025,Traversée des Vosges 4: boucle autour du Hohneck
The weather wasn't great today... So, I left just 10 minutes later to let the first shower pass. The hike then led through the clouds to the higher meadows of the Vosges. A truly impressive path led along a deep valley, then down to two small lakes. At the first, I was lucky enough to find shelter from a downpour …

A real challenge this morning to get into our aquarium shoes 💧, but we didn't know what to expect either. Start at the Auberge Schiessrothried at 13 degrees, sunshine and light wind. Simply wonderful 🤗. But then.... the wind got stronger and at some point we were completely in the fog. No sight, just the tousled little flowers directly on …

A classic hike in the High Vosges, similar to those we hiked in our 20s. Fantastic views into the Rhine plain and the Black Forest and to the west towards Longemer. I was fascinated by the cool, good, oxygen-rich air, as well as the flora. A rediscovery of hiking in the High Vosges.
We will spend the next 40° heatwave, …
