Former Hospital and Town Hall Courtyard

Highlight • Historical Site

The hospital was founded in 1382. The foundation charter about the hospital (1384) states: "Firstly, the courtyard of the hospital. As we, Friedrich von Gottes genaden Burggraf zu Nurmberg, publicly confess with this letter for all of us, our heirs and descendants, ..." - this was a medieval social institution.

The current hospital building was rebuilt on the same site after the fire of 1533 and has been steadily expanded over time. Since 2011, the carefully renovated building complex has housed the city administration and apartments as well as a doctor's office.

The Zenn is an approximately 50 km long, left and western tributary of the Regnitz in Middle Franconia.

The name “Zenn” is of Indo-European origin with the root Th₂niā, which means the flowing one. A Celtic origin is not certain.

The river gave the Obernzenn market, the Unternzenn district and the town of Langenzenn their names.

There are seventeen different species of fish in the Zenn, including: Eels, carp, tench, pike and trout. In 2007, two thousand crayfish were released into the Zenn.
