St. Mary Help Church and Parish House (Dönberg)

The church is a simple hall church in the modern style. At the south end of the 30 meter long nave, which faces northeast, is the neo-Romanesque entrance portal of the old chapel, which was preserved when it was demolished and was architecturally integrated into the new church. In the middle of the nave there is an 18 meter wide transept, which, like the main nave, is divided by several narrow and dark-framed windows. The church does not have a church tower; the bells are located in a small, open-walled belfry above the neo-Romanesque main portal, which corresponds to a bell gable in design. Except for the neo-Romanesque portal, the church is completely plastered in white and appears particularly modern in contrast to the dark windows and dark roof tiles.

Apart from the windows, the interior of the church is completely different than the exterior design. When the church was rebuilt, the wooden organ gallery was stored and installed in the new church. The church pews were preserved, as was the Art Nouveau altar furnishings.

The rectory:
The building is the single-storey parsonage of the Catholic parish of St. Maria Hilf, built between 1874 and 1875, in a slated half-timbered construction on the natural stone base, with a single-axis central projection on the street facade with the house entrance door, the decorative grille, carved skylight and Christian cross, with a four-tiered, arched Outside staircase, high windows with lining and cladding on all facades, with vertical decorative board eaves frieze and the same cladding of the central projection in the attic area with gable roofing and gable roof; the courtyard side with a concrete external staircase to the ground floor and an external basement staircase with concrete retaining walls on both sides. The building is a typical example of the Bergische half-timbered construction of the time and, together with the old original chapel facade of the Church of St. Maria Hilf, forms an ensemble and, despite the lack of shutters on the ground floor, is an indispensable part of Dönberg's historical building fabric. It is therefore a testimony to the history of the place.
