The Strada dell'Assietta, a former military road in the Cottian Alps, connects Val Chisone and Val di Susa. It starts from Pian dell'Alpe towards Sestriere, crossing breathtaking views over 2,000 m. Managed from Turin, it is only open in summer.

Col Basset

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Panoramic point where the last descent towards Sestrire della Stada dell'Assietta begins, or where, as in my case, the climb ends to reach altitude and begin the ups and downs between 2300-2500 meters up to the Assietta hill.

September 20, 2025,Colle delle Finestre e strada dell’Assietta anello Gravel
Rather challenging gravel, lots of climbing, the first part in the woods on asphalt then dirt and dust, ups and downs at altitudes always above 2000 meters with meadows and wide views. Return to Susa on the busy main road.

To get to the beginning of the route, we take the train in Bussoleno, which costs about €7 with the bike.
The climb from Oulx to just before the Col de Basset is very, very hard, mostly paved but with very little traffic and then by track.
They are not in order but you pass through Colle dell'Assietta (2,474 m), …

This time the sections of the state road have been minimized: only one is 3km long... everything else is just excavation and wonder ⛰️💞

@Piter86 from Susa about 2000 meters of difference in altitude in about 30 km with gradients never above 10%

Made based on input from an article by Pinar Pinzuti on bike Italia.it... dirt roads ruined by off-road vehicles and motorbikes.. 700x40 tyres.. but so-so descents.. still nice
