SR 520 Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The SR 520 Trail is a paved path that connects Seattle and the Eastside. It features 11 viewpoints along the way, where you can stop and enjoy views of the Seattle skyline and, on a clear day, Mount Rainier.

520 Bridge View Park

Highlight • Viewpoint

This small park sits right on top of the bridge, with a privillege view of the river, the bridge and the mountains in the background. Worth taking a break to sit in one of the benches just to enjoy the view.

Montlake Bridge

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

This bridge passes over Montlake Cut, a part of the Lake Washington Ship Canal. Somewhere around 40,000 to 60,000 vehicles cross this bridge every day, but don't worry: There's a separate pedestrian walkway that cyclists can use, too.

This fountain was named after University Regent Joseph Drumheller, who donated machinery to the University. In the early 1900s, the fountain was colloquially referred to as "Frosh Pond" because of the freshman hazing activities that took place in the area.

Fremont Bridge

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

Careful when riding North-to-South. If you want to continue on the Chesiahud Lake Union Loop trail, you need to use the long three-stage crosswalk across 4th Avenue BEFORE crossing Nickerson St/Westlake Avenue. The trail branches off the sidewalk to the East side of Westlake Ave. If you cross after that intersection, you will need to cross back again to get on the trail rather than the street.
Riding South-to-North, beware of cars cutting you off by turning right at the "Waiting for the Interurban" statue. They don't seem to look out for cyclists right there.

32.3 km

This is the better bridge to cross Lake Washington. Nice wide cycle/pedestrian path, multiple pullouts that allow you to stop and take in the sights to the North, and a glorious view from the East end of the bridge towards Seattle to the West. Once the Montlake interchange is complete, access to University of Washington will be excellent.

SR-520 Bike Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This section of the trail is smooth with a few rolling hills. There are several viewpoints that make for a great spot to take a break and enjoy the views of Lake Washington, the Seattle skyline, and if you're lucky, Mount Rainier.
