A little hard to see through the trees. But still worth a short break

Kalkofensteg Wooden Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Descent to the Kalkofensteg: Good footwear and surefootedness are recommended, as the path partly leads over loose stones and roots. At the Ammer there are large gravel banks where you can linger and swim. The sinter terraces are also worth seeing.

Ammerschlucht Gorge Trail

Highlight • Gorge

It is sometimes called Bavaria's "Grand Canyon": narrow paths wind their way through the steep hillside forest above the wild Ammer, often they are muddy, greasy. The forest is a natural forest reserve and should become a primeval forest again. Then walking through the gorge will become even more interesting. However, it is unsuitable for a comfortable walk, which is clearly indicated by unmistakable signs at the entrances.

The Ammer (and its upper course, the Linder) is probably one of the last wild rivers in this country. It rises in the Ammer Mountains (Oberammergau) and flows into the Ammersee (just behind Weilheim).

The König-Ludwig-Weg leads through a wild stretch of path shaped and shaped by the murmur of the bunting for around 10,000 years through the "Grand Cayon Upper Bavaria", which almost never lets you go. Footbridges, steps and stairs in constant change with the tree-rooted subsoil of the Ammer Gorge make this piece of nature - especially after rain - a difficult, sometimes demanding hiking trail, for which good, really sturdy footwear is absolutely necessary; then it's a great way and a real highlight.

July 16, 2025,Lime kiln footbridge – Ammer loop from Rottenbuch
This is a tough walk, especially the part between miles 2 and 6, dense forest ( but beutiful), lots of fallen trees over the paths, some you have to climb over, and can be dangerous, make sure you have good agility, sturdy boots and plenty of energy. Even the 2nd half of the walk is tough, we used 50% more …
The first part of the trail is an overall highlight. On the return trip you sometimes need a stable nerves.
Highly recommended if you love adventure.

Ammerschlucht circular route from Schnalz car park near Peiting
Magnificent tour, which contrary to expectations, apart from a few places, mostly above the Ammer, runs without a view of the Ammer. Sometimes very muddy and exposed! Good footwear is essential!
The autumn foliage color was stunning! 🍃🍂🍁☀️🤩👍

Today we had a little adventure. The path led us along a well-traveled street at the beginning. At the beginning of the village we then went on a normal path. In the forest, a humane path continues. Here and there a root path. Good muddy spots followed at the same time. The paths are difficult to walk. Good shoes and …

Hike through part of the Ammer Gorge. The free parking lot in Rottenbuch is a good starting point (be sure to check out the "Maria Geburt" church). I didn't want to disturb today's service, so I only looked at the interior of the parish church online 🙃. As indicated on the signs, only sure-footed hikers with appropriate footwear should venture …

Today not in the mountains, but in the Ammer gorge between Rottenbuch and Peiting - in the hope of fewer people on a beautiful Saturday in early May. We did not regret our decision: on the lonely almost 15km on both sides of the Ammer we were practically alone, only at the Kalkofensteg bathing spot were we in company. The …
