Waterfall in Ehrbachklamm

Highlight • Waterfall

The waterfall is one of the most striking places in the impressive Ehrbachklamm.

Well, just because there is a steel cable as a safety device in a few places doesn't mean the path is a via ferrata. Everything is doable with a little caution. Nothing too wild.

Hundsquelle Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

This small waterfall is from a side arm. It lies inconspicuously about 5 meters above the path.

Bridges in the Ehrbach Gorge

Highlight • Bridge

For me, this dream loop is one of the most beautiful in the region. Exciting, varied with a bit of ambition, it puts you in a good mood. Spring or autumn is recommended. The actual gorge is of course the highlight. But in the end I liked the children's forest.

View of the Rauschenburg ruins

The Rauschenburg was built in 1332 as a result of the Eltz feud. With the establishment of the Trutz Eltz and the Rauschenburg, the then Archbishop of Trier and Elector Balduin of Luxembourg enforced his electoral claim to rule against the knights of the Reichsministerial Knights of the castles Schöneck, Ehrenburg, Waldeck and Eltz, which had been independent until then. In 1337 the feud was ended. The Rauschenburg lost its importance and fell into disrepair in the following years. Of the former castle complex, the inner courtyard, the shield wall and the remains of the keep are still clearly visible. The castle is owned by the local community of Mermuth.

The Peterslay consists of kieselgallenschiefer, a deposit of clayey to slightly sandy sediments in the so-called "Moselle trough" in the Devonian era about 406 million years ago. The concrete shape only emerged in the Quaternary Age in the last 2 million years after the unfolding of the Rhenish Slate Mountains through weathering.

Peterslay is the ultimate vantage point over the Ehrbachklamm!
And if you want a little thrill, you can climb the sloping rock nose, but please be careful and not when it is wet!
