The name Trimunt refers to the monastery In Tribus Montibus that stood here in the Middle Ages. Not much is known about the women's monastery.
Trimunt was originally located on a sandy ridge in a vast moor area. After the reclamation of this, an open meadow area has been created on the lower parts, in which several peat holes are reminiscent of the peat bogs. In the thirties of the twentieth century, the Ontginningsbos was created directly around Trimunt. This forest and the surrounding area is managed by Staatsbosbeheer.
