The first Dairy Queen store opened on June 22, 1940, in Joliet, Illinois. The company expanded through franchising and became International Dairy Queen, Inc. in 1962, with its headquarters located in Bloomington, Minnesota. Since the 1950s, Dairy Queens have played a significant role in the social life of many towns in the Midwestern and Southern United States. The Dilly Bar, which was invented in 1955, is credited to a Dairy Queen in Moorhead, Minnesota.

The Dairy Queen in Minnetonka Mills is just across Minnetonka Boulevard from the Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trails.

Lake Minnetonka

Highlight • Lake

Lake Minnetonka is one of Minnesota's most well known lakes, which is quite the feat for a state know as "The Land of 10,000 Lakes".

It was formed roughly 10,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age, and it has been inhabited ever since. The name derives from the Dakota language and means “the-water-they-speak-of-is-large”. Which is fitting since it covers an area of 14,528 acres.

September 10, 2021,From Greenwood to Oakland Road on Lake Minnetonka LRT
With this bike ride, Martha and I complete our virtual bike adventure along the 2212 miles of the Mississippi River Trail (MRT) from the headwaters of the Mississippi River in Lake Itasca in northern Minnesota to its mouth in the Gulf of Mexico.
Typically, I complete my Komoot week streak on Monday, the first day of the week. However, as Martha and I prepare to move after 43 years in our home, finding time for recreation has been challenging amidst the chaos.
This is bike ride #13 on our virtual biking tour of the coast of Britain from Campbeltown, Scotland, to Greenlawhill, Scotland. You can follow our virtual tour at komoot.com/collection/2427013/-virtual-biking-tour-campbeltown-to-greenlawhill-scotland-cycling-the-coast-of-britain.
