Park Abbey

Highlight • Religious Site

Park Abbey, just outside Leuven, is a beautiful historic site dating back to the 12th century. This Norbertine abbey was founded in 1129 and is one of the best preserved abbeys in Belgium.

The abbey complex includes a church, monastery buildings, water mill, ponds and an extensive park. The buildings are a mix of Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical styles, offering a unique and rich architectural experience.

The abbey was an important religious and cultural center for centuries. Today the abbey is still inhabited by Premonstratensians and hosts various community activities.

Good roads for gravel bike. Cobblestones are bad, which makes them not ideal for racing bikes

Arenberg Castle Park

Highlight • Castle

The original Arenberg Castle was built as a castle in the 14th century by the Lords of Heverlee. In the 16th century, the current castle was built in Renaissance style and in the 19th century it was renovated in neo-Gothic style. It is owned by the university of the Flemish art city Leuven: KU Leuven. Amazingly, this is where you will find the Science and Technology campus. The castle park can be visited permanently. Also take a look at the beautiful watermill on the Dyle and the St. Lambertus Chapel.

The Zoete Waters

Highlight • Lake

The nature reserve owes its name to the Zoete Waters, a series of ponds and marshes that have been created over the centuries by the riverbed of the Dijle. The area is characterised by a varied landscape of water, grasslands and forests, which makes it an ideal habitat for many animal species.

Birdwatchers can indulge themselves here, with a rich offer of both residential and migratory birds. Other wild animals, such as squirrels, deer and foxes, are also regularly spotted in the wooded part of the area.
