Baarbach Cycle Path

Highlight • Cycleway

The cycle path largely runs parallel to the Baarbach stream. It's the most beautiful connection between Iserlohn and the Ruhr Valley Trail.

The Lenne flows east past the core of Hagen. Here she meets the dysentery. The Hohensyburg lies opposite the estuary.

Harkortsee Railway Viaduct

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

Great corner on Hakortsee. And the viaduct is worth at least 1 photo. You can also take a break in Herdecke.

Great view of the Ruhr Viaduct in Herdecke. With a length of 313 m and 12 semi-circular arches of 20 m each, the viaduct spans the valley.

Signposting of the Ruhrtalradweg Ruhr upwards does not match the GPX track on the Ruhrtalradweg website. You have to decide either to drive according to the signs or to be navigated with the track.

April 8, 2023,23-04-08-Gr Ruhrtalradweg - Witten-Arnsberg
Drive in Essen to the train to Witten in the fog.
There meeting with 4 Hattinger ADFCern to continue together.
Gradual clearing to a cloudy sky with intermittent, then brief sun shining through with a headwind, which when stronger then unpleasantly cooling. The distance hazy.
Return journey from Arnsberg by train for two.

We made a little detour to the Möhnesee, but unfortunately it wasn't a good idea, it used too much power, we had to drive 9 km without power, it was very exhausting

Cycle path with obstacles 🚴😱.
The start directly at the Arnsberg train station went smoothly until the cycle path was blocked on the way. Signage was partially missing. Unfortunately, the track that is available for download on the website no longer fits, as some sections have been completely blocked.
We met some cyclists on the way who had the same …

Following the Ruhr River, which is repeatedly dammed to form lakes, the route continues uphill from the Ruhr region (although still barely noticeable...) and finally into the Sauerland. The landscape changes in that the development decreases and the hilly landscape of the Sauerland predominates. Herdecke is worth a stop for a break, small and manageable.

Part 3 of my Ruhrtalradweg experience went from Rumbeck to Witten. There I got on my bike and took the train home.
There were some beautiful sections along the Ruhr, others more in the valley. A good mix in my opinion.
Unfortunately, I didn't really notice a diversion in Herdecke or it wasn't well signposted at first. After a few …

I had also accidentally deleted this tour.
I liked this second tour better than the first route.

After a great Saturday evening including a visit to the Arnsberg distillery with very courteous service and various gins and spirits made in-house, we drove from Arnsberg to Bochum today. I wanted to end the tour exactly where I started a few years ago towards Ruhrorange. I liked today's part of the tour much better than the section from Winterberg …
