Les Planches: This plank of azobé wood, a tropical type of wood from Africa with a deep purple-brown color, has been the most characteristic part of beach life in Deauville since 1923. Along Lrs Planches you will see the famous bains Pompéiens of the complex of sea baths, built of concrete with Art Deco mosaic. these baths consist of nine courtyards, each of which also has a children's pool. On the side of the beach, and therefore the boardwalk, are 450 cabins, each named after an American movie star who was invited to the city's film festival. (Michelin)

Deauville owes its worldwide fame to the luxurious buildings and furnishings and to the stylish events. Throughout the year, but especially in summer, the calendar is full of festivities. At the beginning of September, Deaville turns into a Hollywood suburb every year thanks to the festival du cinéma Americain. "Les Planches" by the sea were immortalized in Claude Lelouch's film Un homme et une femme (Golden Palm in 1966), starring Anouk Aimée and Jean-Louis Trintignant. (Michelin)

Deauville Racecourse

Highlight (Segment) • Structure

Mooi pad langs from hippodroom van Deauville.

It is on the Deauville-La Touques racecourse that you can see the most races during the year! It thus deserves its nickname of “the 4 seasons” racecourse with its program of 42 days of Flat races, the discipline where all the speed of thoroughbreds is expressed. Its prestigious races (Group 1) and its training center with 450 horses year-round and 750 in summer attract elite riders and an international clientele.
This racecourse was the first, 17 years ago, to inaugurate a fiber-sand track, which allows it to organize races in winter. Its grass track takes over in the summer. Deauville–La Touques then hosts numerous races which have earned it its reputation, including the famous Rothschild Prize, Maurice de Gheest, Jacques Le Marois, Morny, Jean Romanet… and to close the summer season, the Deauville Grand Prix. Saint-Aubin Church

Highlight • Other

The first church in the village of Beuzeval was built in the 12th century. Its Gothic porch, rebuilt in the 15th century, is at the entrance to the Houlgate cemetery. It has been listed as a historic monument since April 27, 1948.
When the new town of “Houlgate” was built in 1858, a closer place of worship was needed. Thus Mr. Vergniolle financed the construction of a new chapel (rue Jean Vasnier) which was frequented until the construction of this church.
The Saint-Aubin church, built in neo-Gothic style by the architect Barthélémy, was inaugurated in May 1878. The bell tower was completed in 1888 thanks to a donation from the Armengaud family.
Some stained glass windows on the side aisles are inlaid with representations of the faces of donors or their children. They were made by Lorin, master glassmaker from the Chartres workshop.

Landry Mill

Highlight • Monument

The last watermill in the region, the Moulin Landry is a former flour mill transformed into a neo-Norman mansion in the 19th century (1851). It still remains as one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. The building is clearly visible through the well-kept gardens with century-old trees.

Grand Hotel Cabourg

Highlight • Restaurant

This hotel was built in 1861, but renovated in 1907 to its current state. The same year, Marcel Proust stayed there. When he was ten years old (in 1881), he already stayed in Cabourg because of his asthma. Since then, the fashionable writer stayed every year at the Grand Hôtel until 1914. He was inspired by these experiences to write a portrait of beach life at the beginning of the 20th century and of the customs in Cabourg - "Balbec" - during the belle époque.

Cabourg Casino Gardens

Highlight • Monument

Until the middle of the 19th century, Cabourg was a small fishing village. In the 1850s, Henri Durand-Morimbau, a financier from Paris, developed the plan to build a "modern" seaside resort next to the "old" town. He founded a company that bought up the beaches. On behalf of the company, Paul Leroux, a young architect from Caen, designed the plan for the town of Cabourg-les-Bains. The first casino was built in 1854, and the first grand hotel followed in 1861. The town has retained its semicircular layout in the centre to this day; the streets, which radiate outwards from the Jardins du Casino, are lined with buildings from the Second Empire and the Belle Époque.
