October 5, 2024,DRW - Ingolstadt to Regensburg - Day 2
It didn't rain! But it was grey and miserable. This was more than enough justification to take the over-priced ferry (18€) from Kloster Weltenburg to Kelheim.
Stage 5: today it works again. Last night there was a decent thunderstorm in Ingolstadt. The air felt a little fresher. It must have been very stormy. Small branches lay everywhere on the paths. We started relatively early.
Today the monastery Weltenburg was on the plan.

Today is one of the longer day stages on the Danube Cycle Path. From Ingolstadt through the Danube Gorge at Klosterweltenburg to Regensburg. I took the ferry from Weltenburg to Kehlheim through the Danube Gorge. Otherwise you don't get to see much of it. The cycle path would lead over the top of the mountain. Alternatively you can hike or …

From Ingolstadt to Neuburg, we rode through a green and tranquil landscape, admiring wild hydrangeas and listening to the omnipresent cuckoo. Before Sittingbourne, a misplaced signpost caused us to travel 10 km. The climb to Kelheim was tough, and the subsequent descent, especially from the Waldfriedhof cemetery, was not without its dangers, due to the gravel and shingle surface. From …

Today was the longest ride.
Overall, it was quite varied.
We even had enough time for a haircut.
At Weltenburg Monastery, we took a raft for half the journey to Kelheim. This way, we didn't have to climb the steep hill and sailed through the Danube Gorge.
