Dreieckiger Pfahl Shelter (HWN 168)

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The "Dreieckiger Pfahl" shelter with the Harz hiking badge stamp is located near a stone border marker that used to separate the Kingdom of Hanover and the Duchy of Brunswick.

Our shelters in the Harz National Park are usually located in places worth seeing and are therefore popular hiking destinations. They serve as a short-term rest and break option and as protection in the event of bad weather. Overnight stays are only permitted in an emergency. In the interest of everyone, whether human or animal, our shelters must be kept clean.

Brocken Railway Station

Highlight • Rest Area

The HSB (Harzer Schmalspurbahnen) have parked a (red) tank car with extinguishing water on the Brocken for possible accidents. The wagon stands on a trolley, in winter it goes into the valley.
This tank car was only in Drei Annen Hohne and was subsequently marked by the HSB.
It is used solely for the extinguishing agent reserve and is shut down again in winter.

Brocken Summit

Highlight • Summit

The highest peak in the Harz above the tree line. Certainly not the most exciting climb on a mountain bike, but still a must, simply because it's there. ;-)

A journey through the magic and diversity of the mountain: A visit to Northern Germany's highest mountain is not complete without a stop at the architecturally striking Brockenhaus National Park Visitor Center. A multimedia adventure through the eventful history and unique natural beauty of this fascinating mountain awaits Brocken visitors on three floors.

With an area of almost 250 square kilometers, the national park stretches around the Brocken – from Herzberg in the south to Bad Harzburg and Ilsenburg (Harz) in the north. A large part of the area is covered by spruce and beech forests; moors are also typical.

Knochenbrecher Curve (Brocken Road)

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The term "bones breaker curve" for the top road traffic of the Brocken road dates back to the time of the horse carts. Before the construction of the Brockenstraße (this has existed since at least 1849), the driveway led from the current road curve with shelter very steeply directly to the Brocken Plateau. Due to the difficult terrain, the horses often broke their legs here. Hence the name "Knochenbrecherweg".

The Goetheweg from Torfhaus zum Brocken is one of the most popular hiking trails in the Harz National Park. He is named after the famous German poet and thinker Johann Wolfgang Goethe and follows his probable ascent from Torfhaus zum Brocken on December 10, 1777.
