Saint-Nectaire

Highlight • Historical Site

Notre Dame du Mont Cornadore or Church of Saint-Nectaire is celebrated among other things for its treasure and its 103 capitals, in particular those of the choir forming one of the most remarkable sets of Romanesque sculpture in Auvergne.
These historiated capitals were like an open book offering the faithful a form of monumental catechism.
Saint-Nectaire is also well known for its cheese which takes the same name as the village. It is to my taste one of the best French cheeses.

Montlosier Castle is the headquarters of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park, it houses an exhibition presenting the park and its heritage to visitors. Finally, it is the ideal place to start a hike in the heart of the puys.

Lake Montcineyre

Highlight • Lake

The Puy de Montcineyre, at the time of its formation, blocked the course of a river, and formed this large lake in the shape of a crescent.

Although it was not formed during a volcanic explosion, its depth of 20 meters is significant.
