Findochty Harbour

Highlight • Lake

Findochty, pronounced Finnichty, is a beautiful wee fishing village near Buckie. It has been known as a village since the 1400s. When Buckie was established the fishing moved there and Findochty harbour now contains mostly leisure boats. The houses are painted bright colours, which are wonderful in the sunshine. You can see the church, overlooking the sea, from the main road. It has a small supermarket, post office and pub. The streets are very narrow and there’s a steep descent down to the harbour, like many of the villages on the north-east coast. If you catch the village on a sunny day, it’s a real treat.

Findochty Harbour

Highlight • Structure

The coast around Findochty is magnificently rugged, making for some wonderful walks in fair weather and dramatic hikes when the wind is up and the waves crash agains the stacks, skerries and cliffs. A prosperous fishing port until operations at Buckie were expanded, today Findochty still has an attractive harbour and plenty of places to rest your head at night.

Portknockie Harbour

Highlight • Structure

Portknockie is undoubtedly most famous for the staggering natural architecture of Bow Fiddle Rock. However, the entire coastline around the village is sumptuously rugged, with rocky coves and jagged skerries braving the assault of the churning tides. It is also a prime location for spotting the Moray bottlenose dolphins.
