Sant' Antonino

Highlight • Settlement

Very nice village in Balagne. Vehicles must be parked in a large paid parking lot. The place can be easily visited on foot.

Not every restaurant is really recommended.

Superb trail near Pigna

Highlight • Trail

The place is located in the Corsican mountains at around 230 meters above sea level. Neighboring communities are Corbara in the north, Santa-Reparata-di-Balagna in the northeast and east, Sant'Antonino in the south and southeast and Aregno in the west.
Even from afar, the village of Pigna with its many blue shutters makes a friendly impression. If you stroll through the streets you will discover pottery workshops, a pipe carver and restorers of musical instruments. Many artists have settled in the village. It is therefore also known as the artists' village.

Artists' Village Pigna

Highlight (Segment) • Other

Artisans of the wonderful...
Climb the heights of the Nervia valley. A village with blonde houses and azure shutters awaits you: it is Pigna.
This is the right place to stop! Let yourself be enchanted by this village reborn from its ashes like a phoenix. Stones and clay mix with tuff to give this village back its former glory.
Park your car in the car park, the parish church welcomes you. To its right, a small clay building hides a great secret. Behind these walls is an auditorium. A place of research, experimentation, rehearsals of singing and music, it is more than a tool for the transmission of a musical tradition, it is the heart of the village.
After a few steps, you will find yourself in front of A Vaccaghja; discover this former cattle shed converted into an amphitheater. If you are one of the lucky ones present in Pigna in July, you can take part in the Festival of Voices, Festivoce.
Stroll through the narrow streets and stroll through the stalls and workshops of the artisans... Those who have made it possible to restore Pigna. Potter, jeweler, violin maker, engraver and delicatessen promise you a meeting. Those of the authentic Balagne!
Do not leave the village without watching the sunset from one of the panoramic terraces. Local wines and local specialties will accompany you in this moment of grace that stops time.

Corbara Convent

Highlight • Religious Site

The Couvent of Cobara is located between the two villages of Cobara and Pigna and is not open to the public.
However, its high tower rises into the landscape and offers a good orientation aid for hikes.

From the convent you walk uphill along one of the typical mule tracks. It is always worth looking back. In spring, the blossoming of the plants in the maquis is indescribable.

From here you have a fascinating view over the villages of Pigna and Cobara, as well as the associated couvent.

"Magnifique" should actually be the view from Monte Sant'Antonino. The atmosphere in the mist was also something special!
Well and the little villages of the Balagne are just wonderful. To stroll through the narrow streets and be amazed ...

At over 30 (degrees) glad to have found a tour not too long and with a forest ;-) 😉. St. Antonino is a beautiful little mountain village, car-free and can only be explored by walking and climbing the stairs (see previous tour). The lower Pigna similarly beautiful on a fragrant fennel and thistle trail. Then a way to the church …

Round trip from Sant Antoine (the oldest mountain village in Corsica) to the charming artists' village of Pigna... 🤩
