The Titisee is an absolute must on your Black Forest tour. The 20 meter deep lake was formed in the last ice age around 10,000 years ago. The basin dug out by the former Feldberg Glacier and the end moraine form Lake Titisee today.

There are many old legends about the lake. One says that at the bottom of the lake lies an ancient sunken city. The residents of the city were very rich and lost faith in God and squandered bread. They hollowed out loaves of bread and used the crust as shoes. The punishment for this was inevitable: the gates of heaven opened and a deluge poured out over the old city and buried the city under the masses of water. The old-timers still say that if you go out on the lake on a calm Sunday morning, you can see the spire of the old monastery and hear its bells ringing.
