Unfortunately forbidden for cyclists 🚳.
Contrary to what many locals think in practice, it is forbidden to cycle freely in the Houtdorper- en Speulderveld nature reserve, of which the gravel hole is part. It is best to remain friendly to our nature managers (before they close even more) and stay on official cycle paths or the MTB route.

Beautiful place in the middle of the heath near Vierhouten. Also popular with walkers in this already popular area, so keep that in mind when cycling.

View of the heath in the Veluwe

Highlight • Viewpoint

We passed this road during day 2 of our Green Divide gravel trip from Bussum to Zwolle. If you are looking for a fun Gravel adventure then this is a must!

The weather was a bit less when we drove here but despite that it was still a beautiful place!

A beautiful unpaved 'double track' road through the semi-open fields and along the local sand drift. The forest path / gravel road winds wonderfully from the through paved cycle path towards the sand drift. Around the sand drift, the path is very dry and sandy, especially in summer, so many will have to get off... nevertheless, this crossing is beautiful for cycling (or walking) ;-)

A beautiful flowy single track across the Ermelosche Heide. At the beginning is a climb followed by a flowy descent through the moor with beautiful views!

Solse Gat

Highlight • Forest

According to folk tales, there used to be a monastery here, where dark practices took place... The abbot and the monks who lived in the beautiful monastery did not take the pious life very seriously. They drank gallons of wine, gorged themselves during meals and organized meetings with witches and ghosts. Together they danced until it became light again.

This went on for a long time. The monks partied, drank and enjoyed life. Until, sometime in the Middle Ages, a stormy Christmas evening put an end to the wicked excesses in the forest. Suddenly, local residents heard a huge lightning strike. The next morning a little boy passed by the site and discovered that the entire monastery had disappeared into a large hole in the forest. All that could be seen were some uprooted trees around the site, the brick path that was the access road and a deep hole.
