This pond is part of Vitens' water installation. On the south-east point of the pond is a bench (with its back to the pond 😏).

Johannahoeve Country House

Highlight • Historical Site

Christiaan de Jongh senior has become a wealthy man thanks to the Engelssche Stoom Wasscherij in The Hague. The family decides to buy a country estate in the Veluwe. The air is healthy and – not unimportantly – the heathland is cheap. In the early years of the twentieth century, for many wealthy people from the big city, a country house was simply part of it.

On November 22, 1905, De Jongh Sr. bought at a public sale in Oldebroek, from Baron van Wassenaar van Catwijck, two farms and a number of plots of land, total size over 42 hectares situated in the municipality of Doornspijk.

On a plot of land of approximately 8½ hectares, a country house is being built, surrounded by paths, gardens, a vegetable garden and orchard. The whole surrounded by oak and beech avenues. The name of the house is given as the first name of Mrs. De Jongh - Rouffaer; namely "Johanna"hoeve.

100 meters south-west of the house is the burial vault of the De Jongh family.

Access only during the day on foot or by bicycle.
