The protected natural area Arnovecchio area, located in a paleomeander of the Arno which was rectified during the 16th century, was more recently affected by quarrying activities for the production of gravel, which lasted about forty years, which led to the formation of some basins lake.
It is currently characterized by a mosaic of different environments which, although of artificial origin, have undergone spontaneous naturalization processes with the progressive abandonment of production activities; the quarries in particular have been colonized by numerous fauna and flora species.
In the part of the municipal property (ex Cava Pierucci) a nature path has been created with structures that facilitate the observation of plants and wild animals and designed for complete accessibility also by people with walking difficulties or blind people: in addition to four In fact, there are illustrative signs and tactile panels with fauna, plants and animals in relief and texts in the Braille alphabet.

Arno Cycle Path

Highlight • Cycleway

Here we are between Montelupo and Empoli. The project, but it is only a project, should cover the Arno from its source to its mouth. For now there is something very fragmented on the border between the provinces of Florence and Arezzo, something that crosses Florence and from the Cascine up to Signa. Then the state road up to Camaioni and from here a nice track up to Montelupo. From here you continue until after Empoli, but it is little signposted and often interrupted.

In a building dating back to the seventeenth century, the museum exhibits over 1000 pieces, the result of over 30 years of excavations in the territory of the Middle Valdarno Fiorentino, in the Lower Val di Pesa and in Montalbano. The exhibited material ranges from prehistoric times to the late Middle Ages, passing from the Metal Age, to the Etruscans and Romans. Among the most significant finds the gilded bronze basin with the effigy of Charlemagne (dating back to the beginning of the 12th century).
