Church of Jenaz

Highlight • Religious Site

The Jenazer church stands on the eastern edge of the village. It is first mentioned as St. Peter's Church around 1150, but is probably much older. Along with Schiers and Saas, it was one of the three main churches in Prättigau in the late Middle Ages, on which several branches depended. The originally Romanesque church was significantly enlarged in 1483 (choir) and 1485 (nave) in the late Gothic style to its current size. Unfortunately, essential elements of the old interior design were lost during the first renovation since that time (1837), and then completely during the renewed renovation 120 years later (1956/57). In 2013, a careful restoration took place, especially in the large choir room, which was freed from benches and now opens the view into the distance and light with its line-emphasizing simplicity. The verse from Psalm 36:10 was painted on the south wall: "With you is the fountain of life, and in your light we see the light."

It is a great lap to come down from Madrisaberg by bike (a great trail) and then drive the path back along the river to Klosters.
Super nice for the eyes and heart and nice places to linger can also be found on the way.
Enjoy the rush of the water. 💞
